Jon and I start off by talking about how the internet is wonderful in so many ways, but it can freak you out to no end if you look up things like “spider bites”.
Watching our kids go through pain makes us feel so helpless. We talk about the pros and cons of being honest with them in order to teach them how to deal with pain, and to learn that “what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.”
Jon is taking a HUGE step in trying to eliminate Red Bull from his life. Trust me when I tell you that this is a BIG deal. He’s down six pounds in one week and his cravings are slowly dissolving away. Keep it going, Jon!
I am eliminating alcohol during my work week. I recently decided to give myself only a 48-hour window to partake in adult beverages (5pm Friday till 5pm Sunday).
We talk about the domino effect of eliminating one bad habit from our lives, and how we see so many positive, unintended results from making a choice to push that one domino.
How do we balance alcohol in our lives when we have kids? I wrote about this before, and I still don’t have a definitive answer. Jon shares how growing up with an alcoholic father pushed him toward not drinking at all.
Jon finishes with some parting words of wisdom: “Don’t cling to a mistake just because you spent a lot of time making it.”
I offer up an old Tibetan saying that I found in the book Happiness by Mattieu Ricard: “Seeking happiness outside of ourselves is like waiting for sunshine in a cave facing north.”
As always, we hope you enjoy!
